Pâmela Carvalho is an educator, historian, cultural manager and activist researcher on race and gender relations and the rights of favela populations. She has a master's degree in education from UFRJ. She is the coordinator of the "Art, Culture, Memories and Identities" axis at Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré and institutionally represents the organization in the executive secretariat of the Permanent Forum for Racial Equality (FOPIR). She is the editor of Amarello magazine and founder of Quilombo Etu, a collective that works with popular culture from an anti-racist education perspective.

Pâmela Carvalho é educadora, historiadora, gestora cultural e pesquisadora ativista sobre relações raciais e de gênero e direitos das populações de favelas. Possui mestrado em educação pela UFRJ. É coordenadora do eixo “Arte, Cultura, Memórias e Identidades” da Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré e representa institucionalmente a organização na secretaria executiva do Fórum Permanente pela Igualdade Racial (FOPIR). É editora da revista Amarello e fundadora do Quilombo Etu, coletivo que trabalha a cultura popular na perspectiva da educação antirracista.

Pâmela is from Rio de Janeiro and lives in Nova Holanda, one of the favelas that make up the group of favelas in Maré, Rio de Janeiro. She has a striking smile and a presence of light and power. The intelligent, up-to-date and engaged way she shares her researchs, readings and thoughts with us is incredible. She always has good arguments and makes us rethink standards and encourages us to move away from common sense knowledge, which is massified by the reproduction of racist, classist and heterocentric behaviors.

Pâmela é carioca, moradora da Nova Holanda, uma das favelas que compõem o conjunto de favelas da Maré- RJ. É dona de um sorriso marcante e uma presença de luz e potência. É incrível a forma inteligente, atual e engajada que ela partilha suas pesquisas, leituras e pensamentos. Ela sempre tem bons argumentos e nos faz repensar sobre os padrões e nos estimula a sair de um saber do senso comum, massificado pelas reproduções de comportamentos racistas, classistas e heterocentrados.

Having Pâmela as a reference is extremely important! Seeing her to present renowned artists on the stages of major concerts fills my heart with pride! She brings a different perspective on being black, from the favelas, and she makes us realize our own beauty and also believe that it is possible to enter and occupy other places, any place we want to be!

Diva Cardoso is a confectioner, born and raised in the area of Jardim Catarina/São Gonçalo. From a humble family, her father was a mechanic, and her mother was a maid. Her first contact with the kitchen happened at the age of 6, alongside her mother, modeling “biscoitos de nata” (a cookie made from milk cream). Djamila Taís Ribeiro dos Santos, mother, philosopher, feminist, and writer born in 1980, also coordinated the collection of books “Feminismos Plurais” (Plural Feminisms). She is the author of the books: “Quem tem Medo do Feminismo Negro?” (Who is afraid of Black Feminism?), “Lugar de Fala” (Place of Speech), “Cartas para Minha Avó” (Letters to My Grandmother), and “Pequeno Manual Antirracista” (Short Anti-racist Guide).
